A shared platform connects the founding associations while keeping their identities distinct.
The idea behind UNLP
A shared purpose. Room for every role.
Connected work depends on clear relationships: between people, their associations and the institutions around them.
Why we connect
Shared ambition. Distinct identities.
Livestock activity connects many people. Useful information needs to travel with that activity.
A person’s association membership, an animal’s history and the details of a market handover each tell a different part of the story. UNLP’s purpose is to make those connections clearer, with their sources and responsibilities still visible.
The founding associations bring perspectives from breeding and pastoral production, cattle dealing and processing, foodstuff trade and distribution. These are connected areas of activity, and a person’s work can span more than one.
United Nigeria Livestock Platform (UNLP) is designed to support Nigeria’s wider livestock information framework. Its first national programme, a National Livestock Registry, is structured to populate, integrate with and strengthen the National Livestock Information Management System rather than establish a parallel system of record.
This describes UNLP’s programme design intent, not an implemented live data integration.
Association representation, platform records and public administration have different purposes. Understanding the role behind a record helps people use it appropriately.
01 Associations
Associations represent their members, communicate through their own structures and provide a starting point for membership questions. Association office is distinct from public office.
02 UNLP
The platform connects association identity with clearer records and practical information. A shared record should retain its source, purpose and permitted use; an association’s identity remains its own.
03 Public institutions
Government bodies carry out responsibilities under their respective mandates. Federal livestock policy, state and FCT services, local administration and agricultural quarantine have different roles. The appropriate authority depends on the activity and location.
These principles guide how we explain the platform and the relationships around it.
01
People before records
A person and their association memberships are distinct. Shared information should preserve those relationships.
02
Evidence with context
Keep the source, date and meaning of information visible. Completeness and verification answer different questions.
03
Purposeful access
Consider who needs information and why. A public explanation of the Registry does not open private member records.
Founding associations
Rooted in their communities.
Each association brings its own identity and member relationships to UNLP. Explore its dedicated page for association information, or its platform overview for its role in UNLP.
